The 25-Man Roster Comes Into Focus: Cubs vs. Indians at Mesa Preview, Monday 3/22, 3:05 CT

Dave van Dyck of the Tribune runs down the battle for the final roster spots, which should be done by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, who is now an assistant to GM Jim Hendry, tried on a scout's cap over the weekend for the first time watching the Angels/Mariners game at Tempe with scout Gary Hughes:

For the rest of spring, Maddux will spend time with the big league team, in the Minor League camp and scouting.

Gordon Wittenmyer writes about Randy Wells and Carlos Marmol were converted from catching to pitching and also, how Robinson Chirinos switched from infield to catcher. Chirinos is 4-for-12 with a homer this spring, will likely be one of the catchers at Iowa, and after nine years in the Cubs organization, has a real shot at making the major leagues.

Jeff Samardzija gets the start today. He's running out of time to make the rotation. I still think he'd be better served in relief. I don't know who else may pitch today; Sean Marshall, who hasn't thrown in a while, will face the Rangers in Surprise on Wednesday. The Indians will counter with Fausto Carmona.

Lineup via tweet from Carrie; DH being used today:

SS Theriot, RF Fukudome, 1B Lee, DH Nady, CF Byrd, LF Soriano, 3B Baker, C Soto, 2B Scales

Today's game will be televised via CSN Chicago live in Chicago. If you can't get CSN or you miss the game or want to see it a second time, it will be rebroadcast on the MLB Network at 8 pm CDT tonight. It's also on MLB Audio via MLB.com announcers.
