Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs robbed the Round Rock Express, 3-2.
Jay Jackson went back to the rotation tonight and looked no worse for wear. He went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. He didn't walk anyone and struck out four.
The I-Cub bullpen was perfect tonight. Jeff Samardzija got the win with two perfect innings of relief. He did not get a strikeout. Brian Schlitter picked up save number six with a perfect ninth inning. Schlitter struck out one.
First baseman Micah Hoffpauir went 3 for 4 with his sixth home run of the year. It was a solo home run in the ninth inning. Hoffpauir also doubled. James Adduci also homered for the first time this year. It was a solo shot in a 1 for 4 game.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies shut down the Birmingham Barons, 3-0.
Don't mess with Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Tonight the man with the most frustrating name in the minors shut down the Barons for seven innings, allowing only one hit. He walked one and struck out four as he improved his record to 4-1.
David Cales pitched the ninth and allowed a hit and a walk with one out, but got the final two batters for his first save. Cales struck out one.
Third baseman Marquez Smith hit a two-run home run in the third inning, his second of the year. Smith was 1 for 2 with two walks. DH Russ Canzler went 2 for 4 with a double.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs were pinched by the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 4-1.
Starting pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee gave up a three-run home run in the second inning. Those were the only runs he allowed, but that was enough to drop his record to 2-6. Rhee pitched 4.2 innings and allowed six hits. He walked two and struck out two.
First baseman Rebel Ridling went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Second baseman DJ LeMaheiu went 2 for 4.
Peoria Chiefs
The Chiefs were edged by the South Bend Silver Hawks, 6-5 in ten innings.
Starter Ryan Searle has had a rough season. Tonight he allowed four runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings. He didn't walk anyone and struck out three.
Ronny Moria took the loss in relief. He allowed a run on two hits in the tenth. He only retired one batter.
First baseman Justin Bour went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Second baseman Logan Watkins was 2 for 4 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base.
Shortstop Hak-Ju Lee went 2 for 6 with two RBI. Right fielder Jae-Hoon Ha was 2 for 4 and scored a run.
Catcher Mario Mercedes had a double and an RBI in a 2 for 5 game. He also scored twice. Center fielder Francisco Guzman was 2 for 5 with a triple and an RBI.
