Jered Weaver is having another fine season; in fact, at age 27, it could wind up his best season. He is currently leading the AL in strikeouts with 96 -- not a good sign with the team facing him. He's walked only 23 in 87.2 innings and has a 1.175 WHIP. Marlon Byrd has had some success against him (7-for-22, four doubles) and Xavier Nady once homered off Jered, but of course Nady won't start vs. a RHP. This is his first career start against the Cubs.
Ted Lilly has ten career starts vs. the Angels and is 5-4, 3.45 against them -- but most of those starts were while he was playing for the A's; his last start vs. LAA was on May 16, 2006, and most of that roster is long gone from Anaheim. Hideki Matsui has faced Ted most (9-for-25), but may not play today as he really can't play the outfield very well any more. Ted had a great start vs. the White Sox last Sunday, as you know, but that didn't help his run support; it's still third-to-last in the NL, with only two Pirates behind him.
Today's game is on WGN and FSN West, one of the few times that a WGN national telecast could encroach on Fox's precious 3 pm CDT time slot. Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.
