Tennessee Smokies
The Smokies subjugated the Birmingham Barons, 3-2.
Hung-Wen Chen started and got the win with seven good innings. He gave up two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.
Recently promoted Luke Sommer got his first AA save after saving six for Daytona. Sommer allowed only one hit over 1.2 innings. He struck out two and didn't walk anyone.
Center fielder Tony Campana and shortstop Nate Samson were both 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Right fielder Brandon Guyer was 2 for 4. Josh Vitters was back in the lineup, going 0 for 3 with an unintentional walk.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs went hungry against the Charlotte Stone Crabs, losing 1-0 in 12 innings.
Starting pitcher Chris Rusin went six, allowing only four hits. He didn't walk anyone and struck out three.
Oswaldo Martinez pitched the top of the 12th and got the loss when he gave up a solo home run.
