Only the two lowest teams played today, as Major League Baseball asks the minor leagues not to compete with the All-Star Game. Other than the Texas League and the short-season leagues, they all take the day off. (I have no idea why the Texas League doesn't comply)
Boise Hawks
The Boise Hawks capped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 7-4.
Marcos Perez started and gave up four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. He walked one and struck out three.
The Hawks bullpen shut down the Volcano hitters the rest of the way. Dustin Fitzgerald got the win with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. He gave up two hits and two walks while striking out one. Then Aaron Kurcz got his second save by not allowing a run over 1.1 innings. He allowed a hit, issued a walk and fanned three.
The Hawks pounded out 17 hits. Right fielder Alvaro Ramirez hit the only Hawk home run in a 3 for 5 game. The solo home run was his second of the year. Ramirez scored three times.
Left fielder Jesus Morelli was 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop Elliot Soto was 3 for 4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. First baseman Richard Jones was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
Center fielder Matt Szczur went 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. DH Micah Gibbs was 2 for 5
AZL Cubs
