Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were nuked by the Albuquerque Isotopes, 8-4.
J.R. Mathes started and went five innings, giving up six runs on nine hits. Three of the nine hits were home runs in the thin New Mexico air. Mathes waked one and struck out two.
First baseman Micah Hoffpauir was the only I-Cub to go deep, hitting a solo shot in the fourth inning. Hoffpauir was 1 for 5. He now has 17 homers on the year.
Marquez Smith was a perfect 3 for 3 with a walk and a double. Smith scored once.
Center fielder Sam Fuld was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Shortstop Darwin Barney and left fielder Jason Dubois were both 2 for 5 with a double.
Tennessee Smokies
The Smokies were buried by the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, 8-5.
Starting pitcher Chris Carpenter took the loss. He pitched six innings and gave up six runs on nine hits. One of the six runs was unearned. Carpenter walked one batter and struck out five.
First baseman Blake Lalli had two doubles in a 2 for 4 game. Lalli scored once. Right fielder Matt Spencer was 2 for 4 with a double. Spencer scored twice.
Right fielder Brandon Guyer went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple. Guyer scored twice and batted two in. He was also hit by a pitch.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs won their tenth game in a row by grounding the Palm Beach Cardinals, 4-3.
Chris Rusin started and allowed two runs over five innings, although both runs were unearned. Rusin allowed five hits. He didn't walk anyone and struck out five.
Jeff Beliveau pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning and got the win when the D-Cubs scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Beliveau allowed one hit. He walked one and struck out two.
David Patton got his third save by pitching the ninth, but it wasn't easy. He walked three batters to load the bases with two outs, but got a fly out to end the game. Patton did not allow a hit or strike anyone out.
DH Rebel Ridling hit a two-run homer to give the Cubs the lead in the eighth inning. Ridling was 2 for 4 and also hit a double. He now has ten homers this year.
Third baseman Junior Lake also hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Lake was 1 for 3. He now has eight homers this year, including seven since July 1.
Right fielder Kyler Burke went 3 for 4 with a run scored. Catcher Michael Brenly was 2 for 4 with a double.
Peoria Chiefs
The Chiefs skinned the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 8-3.
Ryan Searle evened up his record with Peoria at 5-5. He allowed only one unearned run over six innings. Searle surrendered five hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out four.
First baseman Justin Bour and catcher Luis Flores both hit two doubles in 2 for 4 efforts. The both also scored once, although Flores had two RBI and Bour only had one.
Third baseman Matt Cerda went 2 for 4 with one double. He scored twice and knocked two in.
Matt Szczur kept his hitting streak alive with a 1 for 5 game in his first day in the Midwest League.
Boise Hawks
The Hawks got off to a bad start in the second half by losing their sixth game in a row, 5-3 to the Vancouver Canadians.
Eduardo Figueroa started and got the loss. Figueroa allowed four runs on four hits over 3.2 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
Alvaro Ramirez was 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Jesus Morelli was also 3 for 5 with an RBI.
Second baseman Pierre LePage hit two doubles in a 2 for 5 night. He scored once and had one RBI.
