For those of you wanting to see what Welington Castillo can do behind the plate, today's your chance. He'll be getting the start today in Mesa.
Alfonso Soriano says he's ready to have a big second half of his contract after offseason workouts have him in great shape. He's off to a good spring training start. Hope he keeps it going.
Here's an interesting story from Ed Sherman at Crain's: the Cubs are offering suite holders an option to upgrade their suites and pay for the renovations themselves. While this at first sounds like another chance for you to call the Cubs cheap, it's not as it seems. As the article points out, this came about because last year a suite holder wanted to do his own upgrades and pay for them. So, according to Colin Faulkner, Cubs VP of ticket sales, the Cubs are giving people an option:
"With the potential for an upgrade to Wrigley Field (occurring in what the Cubs hope will be sooner than later), this isn't the best time to renovate all the suites," Mr. Faulkner said. "It doesn't make sense to renovate now only to have to do it again."
However, if a suite holder doesn't want to wait for the Wrigley makeover, the Cubs wanted to make the renovation option available.
Instead of suite holders dealing with multiple contractors, the Cubs felt it was best go through one contractor.
"We negotiated the price down with the contractor," Mr. Faulkner said. "We're not making any money off of this."
Mark your calendars now: the April 24 Dodgers/Cubs game at Wrigley Field, on the TV schedule as a CSN Chicago game, will also be televised nationally by TBS. (Hopefully, they will spare us Dick Stockton.)
Carlos Silva starts for the Cubs. This is a key outing -- if he can't right himself from last week's meltdown, he might be pitching his way off the roster. Personally, I'd like to see him succeed the way he did the first half of last year. He'll be followed by James Russell. The Angels counter with Dan Haren. Also scheduled to throw for the Angels today are Fernando Rodney, Michael Kohn, Hisanori Takahashi and Eric Junge. Complete lineups after the jump.
