Cubs Minor League Wrap: June 8

I'm way too beat to write up a draft recap tonight. I think I'll spend all tomorrow sleeping. When I wake up to write tomorrow's Minor League Wrap, I'll try to write a draft recap after that.

Sure, on the day the Cubs win, the entire farm system decides to lose.

Iowa Cubs

Admittedly, the I-Cubs did not lose. The Iowa Cubs had the day off.

Tennessee Smokies

The Smokies were silenced by the Jackson Generals (Mariners), 1-0.

Robert Coello was the hard luck loser for the Smokies tonight as he only allowed one run on three hits over six innings. Coello walked three and struck out three.

Shortstop Junior Lake was 2 for 4 with a stolen base. Second baseman Marwin Gonzalez was 2 for 3 and was hit by a pitch.

Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs were shot down by the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 4-0.

Aaron Kurcz started and took the loss. He only pitched three innings and he allowed four runs and five hits. Kurcz walked two and struck out four.

The D-Cubs only had one hit tonight. Jake Opitz had the one single.

Peoria Chiefs

The Chiefs were swept out to sea by the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers) 10-9.

Graham Hicks has been good most of this season, but tonight he got knocked around hard for seven runs on nine hits, including two home runs, over five innings. Two of the seven runs were unearned. Hicks walked one and struck out three.

Alvaro Sosa allowed a solo home run in the top of the ninth to take the loss. It was the only run Sosa allowed in the one inning he pitched. Sosa allowed two total hits. He did not walk anyone and struck out one.

Center fielder Matt Szczur was 4 for 5 with four RBI. He also scored once. Left fielder Kyung-Min Na had two doubles in a 4 for 4 game. Na scored twice and had one RBI.
