One team can make the World Series today. The other series might be going on a while.

We have four teams in the postseason that have combined for 86 of the 214 World Series appearances before this year. That's kind of old hat; it would be nice to see some new teams, or at least a new matchup, in the World Series.

We could still have one this year. I wrote about it at Baseball Nation earlier today. And that would be a fun matchup, with a number of colorful players, and it's not because that's the matchup I picked in the first place 12 days ago. Oh, no. Not the reason at all...

The Tigers can win the AL title tonight. With the way their pitching has been, and the way the Yankees have been hitting? I say they complete the sweep.

Meanwhile, today's afternoon game matches the Cardinals and Giants as the series moves to St. Louis.
