I'd like to see the Tigers win tonight for the simple reason that I'd like to see at least one more baseball game; having the season extended means more baseball and a shorter gap before spring training begins.
That said, I don't expect it; the Tigers have turned into what they made the Yankees during the ALCS, an impotent offensive club that can't score even when they get runners on base. I thought this World Series would be decided because of one club's great pitching. I did not expect that to be the Giants, even though their pitching was very good even before the last three games.
We are in a stretch of non-competitive World Series. Starting in 2004, there have been just two World Series (2009 and 2011) that have gone even as far as six games, and during that stretch, there have been three sweeps (2004, 2005, 2007). Looks like we're headed for another sweep.
Here are some other good reasons the Tigers are done, written by me for Baseball Nation.
Oh, and guess what else? There's a chance of rain during the game.
