SBN Awards: Player Of The Year

One of these awards will likely be matched by the BBWAA. Will the other?

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

This is the final of the three awards given by SB Nation this week; instead of Most Valuable Player, we're calling ours "Player of the Year". You can parse or define that any way you want.

In the National League, we voted Buster Posey the award. This is likely the less controversial of the selections, although some of you might vote for Ryan Braun or Andrew McCutchen (note in the votes below, some did).

We've discussed at great length here at BCB whether Mike Trout or Miguel Cabrera is the "MVP" of the American League; the BBWAA vote that will be released later today will decide that. SB Nation voters chose Trout, 22 first-place votes to four. As a NL blog, this site did not get a vote for that award -- if I had one, it would have gone to Trout.

We voted for 10 players and points are awarded on a 14-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

BCB ballots:

Al: Posey, McCutchen, Braun, Chase Headley, David Wright, Yadier Molina, Matt Holliday, Giancarlo Stanton, Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano

Mike: Posey, Molina, Braun, McCutchen, Headley, Wright, Stanton, Ramirez, Gio Gonzalez, Soriano

Yes, we both voted Soriano 10th place. He finished tied for 31st in the overall balloting. In the NL in 2012, Soriano was 18th in OPS+, 24th in OPS, 43rd in rWAR. 31st sounds about right to me.
