Cubs vs. Cardinals Mock Game Thread

Hi, hello, and welcome, ladies and gentlemen, for some major league action on this December afternoon.

David Banks-US PRESSWIRE

Today, from historic Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs will take on the St. Louis Cardinals. The wind is blowing in gently from right field, and today's starting pitchers will be Scott Baker for the home-standing Cubs, and Jake Westbrook for the visiting Cardinals from St. Louis. Grab a beverage and join us in a few minutes for major league baseball action after these words from our sponsors.

It's a beautiful day for a ballgame.
For a ballgame today.
The fans are out to get a ticket or two
From Walla Walla, Washington to Kalamazoo.
It's a beautiful day for a home run.
But even a triple's okay.
We're going to cheer, and boo,
and raise a hullabaloo
at the ballgame today.

The big rumor today is that Cuban import Jorge Soler may make his Cubs debut today. Nothing is certain, but he was getting ready in batting and fielding practice like he might get his first taste of big league action this afternoon. He isn't in the starting lineup, but don't be surprised if Soler, or Arodys Vizcaino, who was acquired in the Paul Maholm trade last season, get into the action today.

As mentioned in the pre-game thread, the lineups are as follows.

St. Louis will go with Jon Jay in CF, Carlos Beltran in RF, Allen Craig at 1B, Matt Holliday in LF, David Freese at 3B, Yadier Molina catching, Ty Wigginton at 2B, Pete Kozma at SS, and Jake Westbrook on the mound.

Chicago will counter with David DeJesus in RF, Starlin Castro at SS, Anthony Rizzo at 1B, Alfonso Soriano in LF, Brett Jackson in CF, Ian Stewart at 3B, Darwin Barney at 2B, Welington Castillo behind the plate, and Scott Baker on the mound.

The first pitch will be after this message.
