Cubs vs. White Sox and Cubs vs. Rangers, Sunday 3/18, 3:05 CT: Weather Permitting

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- It looks like weather will permit the game in Las Vegas, though it'll be chilly:

Today: Scattered showers, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 53. Southwest wind between 14 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

The Mesa forecast doesn't look as promising:

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 55. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Maybe they should have moved these games to Chicago:

This Afternoon: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Perfectly fine June baseball weather in Chicago, wasted in March. Oh, well. They really should call off today's game in Mesa. Why risk injuring players in a meaningless contest? Just so they don't lose a sellout crowd? That's inconsiderate to players and fans alike. I'm still waffling about heading to Mesa for the game -- will probably sit this one out. It's cold here. I can sit in the cold in Chicago in April.

Should they play, here are the lineups:

Cubs vs. White Sox in Mesa:

DeJesus DH, Byrd CF, Castro SS, Rizzo 1B, Soto C, Baker LF, Vitters 3B, Amezaga 2B, Campana RF

White Sox lineup:

DeAza CF, Morel 3B, Rios DH, Konerko 1B, Fukudome RF, Ramirez SS, Viciedo LF, Flowers C, Beckham 2B.

Cubs vs. Rangers in Las Vegas:

Johnson LF, Lake SS, DeWitt 2B, Soriano DH, LaHair 1B, Mather 3B, Clevenger C, Sappelt RF, Adduci CF

Rangers lineup was not available at posting time.

The Cubs are once again listed as the "home" team and will bat last in the Vegas game.

Pitching-wise, Casey Coleman will start against the White Sox in Mesa, followed by Andy Sonnanstine, Carlos Marmol, Kerry Wood and Marcos Mateo. For the White Sox, it'll be Gavin Floyd. They have a whole bunch of pitchers listed as scheduled to go, far more than could actually get into the game, so I'll just list all of them: Leyson Septimo, Will Ohman, Dylan Axelrod, Zach Stewart, Simon Castro, Jhan Marinez, Deunte Heath, Charlie Leesman and Anthony Carter.

Chris Volstad goes against the Rangers in Vegas. Other Cubs on the list for Vegas: Alberto Cabrera, Jeff Beliveau and Lendy Castillo. Blake Parker and Rafael Dolis were on yesterday's list but didn't pitch, so one or both might go today. Matt Harrison will start for the Rangers, followed by Mark Hamburger, Sean Green and Roman Mendez.

Today's game in Mesa is on with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie. Today's game in Las Vegas is on FSN Southwest (and MLB.TV) with the Rangers announcers. The Mesa game is also being carried on local Chicago radio (WSCR) with the White Sox announcers. Here is the Mediacenter for today. Gameday for Cubs/White Sox Gameday for Cubs/Rangers

Note that for spring training gameday links, you probably will not get pitch-by-pitch as during the regular season; these are unofficial links. Each play will be posted, but might not be updated until after each half-inning.

There will be one overflow thread, which will post at 4:30 pm CT. The "Recent Stories in Game Threads" box on the sidebar is where you'll find it.
