MLB Network, every spring, runs a feature titled "30 Clubs In 30 Days". The Cubs will be featured on tonight's installment, which will air at 6 p.m. CST with rebroadcasts at 11 p.m. CST and 3 a.m. CST (Thursday). If you miss it or can't DVR it, it will be available on the MLB Network website archive, sometime on Thursday.
The show will be hosted by Greg Amsinger with analysts John Hart and Harold Reynolds. The episode will feature Harold in the batting cages with Ian Stewart and Rudy Jaramillo, plus a demo featuring Starlin Castro explaining how he’s trying to improve his defense.
Harold Reynolds on Castro:
This baby-faced kid, in about two years, we will be talking about as one of the elite best players in the game. He reminds me of a young Alex Rodriguez with the ability to drive the ball anywhere.
Personally, I think an A-Rod comparison is a little too much, but wouldn't it be great if Reynolds turned out to be right?
Jeff Samardzija starts for the Cubs Wednesday afternoon; Jay Jackson, Trey McNutt, Jeff Beliveau and Marcos Mateo are among other pitchers who could see action.
For the Royals, it'll be Jonathan Sanchez, followed by Everett Teaford, Kelvin Herrera, Nate Adcock, Blake Wood and Tim Collins.
Cubs lineup:
Sappelt cf, Johnson lf, Castro ss, LaHair 1b, Ha dh, Barney 2b, Tolbert 3b, Clevenger c, Mather rf
Looks like several regulars got the day off as Dale Sveum is looking at backup possibilities (Dave Sappelt, Matt Tolbert, Joe Mather). There will be more playing time for backups starting on March 15, when the Cubs have four split-squad dates in six days.
Royals lineup was not available at posting time; feel free to add it in the comments if you find it.
Once again, no TV today. Here is the MLB.com Mediacenter for today. Today's game is via WGN radio with Pat and Keith.
Note that for spring training gameday links, you probably will not get pitch-by-pitch as during the regular season; these are unofficial links. Each play will be posted, but might not be updated until after each half-inning.
There will be one overflow thread, which will post at 3:30 pm CT. The "Recent Stories in Game Threads" box on the sidebar is where you'll find it.
