Geovany Soto had been activated earlier Monday from the disabled list -- we knew this because a lineup came out with his name installed as catcher, batting eighth.
What we did not know was that Ryan Dempster had been placed on the 15-day disabled list with lat tightness that is said to be "not serious." That could be true, but that also puts any Dempster trade talk on hold for now.
Recalled from Triple-A Iowa to replace Dempster on the pitching staff is Scott Maine. It's still uncertain who will take Dempster's scheduled start on Wednesday, but my guess is it'd be either Casey Coleman or Randy Wells, so another roster move wouldn't have to be made.
To make room for Soto, Welington Castillo has been optioned to Iowa. It was reported last week that the Cubs might stick with three catchers to give them the option to use Steve Clevenger as a pinch-hitter, but obviously that hasn't happened. Clevenger is in tonight's lineup at first base. Instead of three catchers, Adrian Cardenas sticks around to be hardly used at all.
UPDATE: Here's your Wednesday starting pitcher.
