Cubs Minor League Wrap: June 20

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs derailed the Round Rock Express (Rangers), 4-1.

Brooks Raley dominated the Express tonight. He went seven innings and allowed only one unearned run on two hits. Raley walked one and struck out seven.

Michael Bowden and Rafael Dolis finished the game off with a scoreless inning each. Dolis allowed one hit but no walks as he got his second save. Dolis struck out two.

Iowa scored four runs on only four hits. Left fielder Ty Wright scored the first run of the game on a solo home run in the third. It was his fifth home run for Iowa this season and sixth overall. Wright was 1 for 3 with a walk. He scored twice.

DH Blake Lalli was 2 for 4 with a two-out, bases-loaded single that scored two runs in the seventh.

Tennessee Smokies

Checking in from Jacksonville where they'll start their second half tomorrow.

Daytona Cubs

A two-out home run by Rubi Silva in the bottom of the ninth gave the Daytona Cubs a 3-2 walkoff win over the Tampa Yankees.

P.J. Francescon allowed two runs in the first inning, but nothing after that over six innings of work. He allowed nine hits and one of the two runs was earned. Francescon walked two and struck out five.

A.J. Morris pitched a scoreless top of the ninth and got the win when Silva homered in the bottom of the inning. Morris allowed a hit and a walk. He did not have a strikeout.

Center fielder Silva was 1 for 4 tonight overall. He had a second RBI on a first inning ground out.

Shorstop Arismendy Alcantara was 2 for 4 and scored once. He also stole his 21st base of the year.

Peoria Chiefs

Boise Hawks

The Boise Hawks turned green against the Eugene Emeralds (Padres), 7-4.

Starter Jose Arias just pitched the first three innings, allowing two runs on six hits. One of the two runs was unearned. Arias struck out one and didn't walk anyone.

Amaury Paulino took the loss in relief. Paulino allowed three runs on four hits over 3.2 innings. Paulino walked two and struck out three.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario hit his first Boise home run with a man on in the sixth inning. Candelario was 2 for 4 and scored twice.

Right fielder Xavier Batista was 2 for 4 and scored once.

Center fielder Shawon Dunston was 2 for 4 with a double an a run scored.

AZL Cubs

Beat the AZL Giants, 3-1, in their season opener.

If you've read my work in previous seasons, you know that I don't do full recaps of the rookie league team. I will comment if someone does something especially notable, but I don't do a mention of everyone who gets two hits or a decision or whatnot. I do this to keep my workload down and to keep my own sanity. I do always provide a link to the box score. Honestly, none of you are paying me enough to complain.

Jacob Rodgers and Trevor Gretzky got their first professional hits. So there's something.
