Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs got blasted with a ray gun by the Las Vegas 51s (Blue Jays), 14-7.

Ryan Rowland-Smith started and took the loss after allowing five runs over four innings. He kept the 51s from scoring in the first inning, and that was the last inning that Las Vegas did not score. Rowland-Smith surrendered four hits and issued five walks. He struck out two as his record fell to 2-4.

Center fielder Tony Campana was 3 for 4 with a walk. He stole two bases and scored three runs.

Tennessee Smokies

On the road to Birmingham.

Daytona Cubs

After two off-days due to rain, they had an off-day to travel to Lakeland. Rain in the forecast for tomorrow in Lakeland.

Peoria Chiefs

The Peoria Chiefs lost to the Beloit Snappers (Twins), 3-2.

Starting pitcher Yao-Lin Wang only made two real mistakes: a pair of back-to-back home runs in the second inning to Miguel Sano and Kennys Vargas. Other than that, he was impressive, allowing only three hits over six innings. Wang walked two and struck out four.

Austin Reed made one big mistake: In the eighth inning, he walked in the eventual winning run. Reed pitched two innings and allowed the one run on three hits and two walks, one of which was intentional. The run was unearned, but it was the result of Reed's own error.

Right fielder Jorge Soler was 2 for 3 with a double. He scored once.

Boise Hawks

The Boise Hawks were drenched in lava by the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Giants), 11-4.

Starting pitcher Jose Arias threw six innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He didn't walk anyone and struck out four.

It was a rough night for Hayden Simpson in relief. He entered the game in the eighth inning and exited after retiring only one batter. In the meantime, the Volcanoes exploded for eight runs on six hits and a walk. Two of the eight runs were unearned. His record dropped to 1-3.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario was 3 for 4. Second baseman Gioskar Amaya was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. He scored two runs.

Shortstop Marco Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a triple, extending his hit streak to 18 games. He had one RBI.

AZL Cubs

Beat the Reds, 17-7.

The Rookie Ball Crew had 25 hits tonight. Albert Almora was 5 for 6 with a triple.

Every Cub had at least two hits, except for Yasiel Balaguert, who only had one but he had a walk and a sac fly.
