Cubs Minor League Wrap: August 20

Don't get too excited about tonight's wrap: It's just the same old stuff.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs got run over by the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals), 11-3.

Ty'Relle Harris pitched the first four innings and got the loss. Harris allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and four walks. Harris fanned four.

Marcus Hatley had an especially bad night. He faced seven batters in the seventh inning and retired no one, giving up three hits and four walks. Six of those runners would come around to score.

Right fielder Jim Adduci went 2 for 4 with a triple and a walk. He scored one run and had one RBI.

Second baseman Alfredo Amezaga was 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored. First baseman Greg Rohan went 2 for 5 with an RBI double. Catcher Blake Lalli was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. He scored one run.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies burned down the Chattanooga Lookouts (Dodgers), 5-1.

Nick Struck kept the game close for six innings, allowing one run on six hits. Struck walked two and struck out three.

Brian Schlitter got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. He didn't allow any hits, but he did walk two batters. Schlitter struck out three.

Third baseman Junior Lake hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave the Smokies their first lead of the game. Lake was 2 for 4 with a double. He scored one run.

Center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha was 2 for 3 with a walk. Ha scored one run. Right fielder Rubi Silva was 2 for 4.

Daytona Cubs

Scheduled day off. The D-Cubs have only played three of the past ten days. Fifty percent chance of thunderstorms in Clearwater tomorrow.

Peoria Chiefs

The Peoria Chiefs were snakebit against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 8-1.

Starter Joe Zeller got into trouble early when the Chiefs made two errors in the first inning which led to three runs. (Originally it was three errors, but one error was later changed to an infield hit.) Zeller pitched six innings and allowed seven runs, five earned, on ten hits. Zeller did not walk anyone and struck out one.

The Chiefs were held in check by Shaun Marcum, who pitched six innings for Wisconsin on a rehab assignment. Second baseman Zeke DeVoss was 2 for 4 with a double. Shortstop Tim Saunders was 2 for 4.

Left fielder Bijan Rademacher had an RBI double off of Marcum in the fifth inning for the lone Chiefs run. Rademacher was 1 for 3.

Boise Hawks

The Boise Hawks lost to the Yakima Bears (Diamondbacks), 8-7.

Ian Dickson had a solid start, allowing two unearned runs over five innings. Dickson surrendered three hits and didn't walk anyone. He struck out four.

The Hawks bullpen blew a 7-2 lead. Hunter Ackerman gave up four runs on three hits over 2.2 innings. He walked one and struck out one. But Tyler Bremer got the loss in relief. He gave up two runs and an inherited runner from Ackerman over an inning. Bremer gave up a two-run home run to the first batter he faced in the eighth inning and the losing run in the ninth. Bremer allowed three hits. He walked two and didn't have a strikeout.

First baseman Dan Vogelbach hit his first home run in ten days with the bases empty in the fourth inning. It was Vogelbach's ninth home run for Boise and sixteenth overall. Vogelbach was 3 for 4 with a walk. He scored two runs.

Shortstop Marco Hernandez also homered with a man on in the sixth inning. It was his fifth home run for the Hawks and seventh overall. Hernandez was 1 for 3 with a walk. He scored two runs.

Second baseman Stephen Bruno was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double and two walks. He scored once.

AZL Cubs

Lost to the Padres, 4-1.

Paul Blackburn tossed for scoreless innings. Rafael Dolis allowed three runs, two earned over 1.1 innings of a rehab assignment.
