Cubs Minor League Wrap: August 26

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs lost to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Astros), 4-3.

Even though starter Chris Rusin took the loss, he pitched really well.. Rusin pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on four hits, including a solo home run. He walked only one and struck out seven.

First baseman Blake Lalli went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Right fielder James Adduci was 2 for 4 witih an RBI.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies slew the Mobile BayBears (Diamondbacks), 4-3.

Eric Jokisch pitched the first seven innings. He surrendered three runs on eight hits. Jokisch walked one and fanned four.

The win went to Trey McNutt, who didn't allow a run over the final two innings. McNutt gave up one hit. He didn't walk anyone or struck out one.

The hitting hero of the game was left fielder Jae-Hoon Ha, who knocked home the go-ahead run with a triple in the eighth inning. Ha also doubled in a 3 for 4 effort. Ha scored once.

Daytona Cubs

They had a scheduled off-day, which is a good thing as the whole rest of the Florida State League was rained out by Hurricane Isaac. Tomorrow night's home game is almost certain to be postponed.

Peoria Chiefs

The Peoria Chiefs defanged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 10-3.

Starter Jeffry Antigua dominated today with seven scoreless innings, allowing only three singles. Antigua didn't walk anyone and struck out seven for his third win and second with the Chiefs.

First baseman Jacob Rogers crushed his first Peoria home run off of the right-field scoreboard. It was in the sixth inning with the bases empty. Rogers was 2 for 5 and scored twice. He has three total home runs this year.

Center fielder Pin-Chieh Chen also had a big game as he scored four times this afternoon. Chen went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. He also stole a base and had one run batted in.

Third baseman Dustin Geiger went 3 for 4 with a walk. He had three RBI. Right fielder Jorge Soler was 2 for 5 with a double and two runs knocked in.

Second baseman Zeke DeVoss was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Boise Hawks

The Boise Hawks ended their road trip with a 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays).

Starting pitcher Felix Pena had the loss after giving up four runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. Pena walked three and struck out five.

Center fielder Trey Martin was 2 for 4 and scored the lone Hawks run. Third baseman Jeimer Candelario went 2 for 3 with a walk.

The Hawks have a travel day tomorrow before ending the regular season with a five-game series at home against Everett. Then they'll play a best-of-three playoff series against Yakima, starting with game one in Boise on Monday, September 3.

AZL Cubs

Beat the Athletics 5-2.

Juan Paniagua got his first Cubs win. Trevor Gretzky was 3 for 4, raising his batting average over .300.
