Just another reminder -- in case the time posted in the headline here isn't enough -- that this game, shown as a 3:05 start on original schedules (and season tickets), will begin at 12:05 CT instead.

This was done because originally, this was to have been a Fox-TV game. Even though the Giants are in first place, and the Cubs are a decent TV draw, Fox scrapped this game from their schedule. Thus the time change, and in addition, it'll be seen nationally on WGN.

This could be a lucky break, because the heavy rain that's headed to the Chicago area via the remnants of Hurricane Isaac isn't supposed to get real heavy until later in the day. The forecast is for scattered showers and thunderstorms, but the movement of this rain shield up from central and southern Illinois has been so slow that it could hold off long enough to get today's game in.

Neither team's lineup was in at the time I wrote this post. Check the BCB Twitter feed for the lineups... if it doesn't rain, that is.

Justin Germano last started against the Giants April 9, 2008 when he was with the Padres. And he threw seven shutout innings! Unfortunately, not one of the Giants players from that game is still on the team. No current Giants player has more than three career AB vs. Germano and all told, they are 4-for-8... so who knows?

Tim Lincecum, over the last four years, has won two Cy Young Awards and finished in the top 10 of Cy voting the other two seasons. During that time, Cubs teams actually did pretty well against him; he's posted a 3.49 ERA in nine starts, winning just three of them. Now, Lincecum is having a miserable season, the worst of his career; thus, I'd expect him to shut the Cubs out. The miserable year has improved somewhat since the All-Star break; he's got a 3.31 ERA and 1.288 WHIP in nine starts since then. Current Cubs are 9-for-33 against Lincecum (.273) with one home run (Alfonso Soriano).

Today's game is on WGN.

Today's first pitch thread will post at 12:05 p.m. CDT and the overflows at 1:05, 2:05 and 2:50 p.m. CDT. If you need more overflows due to extra innings or rain delays, post them in the fanshot section. Also please note: due to some under-the-hood changes, the sidebar box with the game thread links is no longer available. It seems you've found them with no problems, but if you haven't been able to find the overflow threads, click the "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" link under "Sections" on the left sidebar. They're all in there.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
