Cubs' 2013 Schedule Includes First-Ever Visit To Oakland

The Cubs, and the rest of MLB, announced the 2013 schedule Wednesday. It includes the Cubs' first-ever trip to Oakland to play the Athletics.

2013 will bring major changes to baseball -- the Astros heading to the American League, which means 15 teams in each league and interleague play year-round.

For the Cubs, it will mean their first-ever trip to Oakland to face the Athletics in early July. The Cubs and A's have met twice, in 2004 and 2010, both times at Wrigley Field. The Cubs will also face the rest of the AL West -- including, of course, the Astros. All of the Cubs' interleague play will be before the All-Star break, and they will again finish the home season on a Wednesday.

The Cubs' opener is Monday, April 1, 2013, at Pittsburgh against the Pirates. The home opener will be against the Brewers, a week after that on Monday, April 8. In a bit of a departure from past practice, there is no off day after the home opener. The first interleague series will be at home against the Rangers, April 16-18. There are a lot of odd two-game series with multiple off-days in a week; the Cubs will also face the White Sox in a pair of back-to-back two-game sets in May. Maybe 2013 will be better than 2012. We can only hope.

The complete schedule is below. I'll place this post's link on the left sidebar, and update it with game times when they're available.
