Congratulations to Boise Hawks First Baseman Dan Vogelbach and Nick Struck, whom you voted as the BCB Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year respectively.
You decided that Vogelbach half-season was the most impressive, undoubtedly due to his light-tower power. In 61 games and only 283 plate appearances, Vogelbach hit 17 home runs between rookie ball and Boise. But Vogelbach isn't just about power at the plate, as he displayed good hitting for average skills with a .322 batting average. He could also draw a walk and posted a .410 on-base percentage. Vogelbach will probably start next year with a team in the Midwest League to be named later.
For the Pitcher of the Year, your vote went to Nick Struck, who was really the ace of the Tennessee Smokies all season. He led all of the Cubs system with 14 wins. He was really good down the stretch for the Smokies, as he went 7-4 with a 2.29 ERA after the All-Star Break. Struck should start the year in Iowa next season, where he'll have a chance to pitch himself into the majors when there is an opening in either the rotation or the bullpen.
Both worthy choices and I wouldn't have nominated them if they hadn't been. Now that the voting is over, however, I'll reveal my votes were for Logan Watkins and Eric Jokisch. But disagreements are really what's fun about these things, right?
