We've known for a couple of weeks that the Cubs were going to soon sign free-agent righthander Edwin Jackson to a moderate-dollar contract. Wednesday, he was introduced to the media at Wrigley Field and we learned of another big event coming up in Jackson's life:
The Cubs gave Edwin Jackson quite a wedding present on Wednesday. Jackson, 29, who will marry Erika Zanders on Saturday, signed a four-year, $52 million contract with the Cubs. Jackson has been busy with wedding preparations, and that, plus the holidays, delayed the official signing until Wednesday.
Jackson will become a solid No. 2 or No. 3 in the Cubs' rotation; this pitching staff actually looks pretty decent coming into the season. Of course, the bar was set pretty low to replace guys like Jason Berken, Justin Germano and Chris Volstad. Jackson says he's ready:
Jackson and Zanders flew home late Wednesday to get back to the wedding details. “I’m not really nervous about either,” Jackson said about the pending nuptials and starting for the Cubs. “I’m trying to calm my nerves. With wedding planning, two people can’t be nervous.”
Also new this evening is the SB Nation/BCB site layout, previewed also a couple of weeks ago. Details on the changes at that link. I'm going to experiment with a couple of different layout styles to see if you like them. Let me know in the comments.
