There is one more item of interest to Cubs fans beyond the managerial search -- tonight at 7 p.m. CT, ESPN2 will air something with the unwieldy title "Baseball Tonight/The 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove Award ® Announcement Show". It's then that we'll find out whether Anthony Rizzo and/or Darwin Barney has won a Gold Glove for 2013. (Odds on Barney are pretty good; Rizzo might have to wait another year or two.)
From Comcast SportsNet
- Patrick Mooney has more on the Cubs' managerial search. Names are named, but nothing really new, not even a "mystery candidate."
- Theo Epstein says you don't have to spend big money to get a good closer.
From Cubs Den
- Ever heard of the "Hall of Very Good"? A guest post at Cubs Den says a lot of Cubs qualify.
- The Anarchist's Brunch examines the managerial search and wonders how good the guy who's eventually hired is really going to be.
From Cubs.com
- Jim Callis on Kris Bryant's great performance in the Arizona Fall League.
From the Chicago Tribune
- Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo talks in vague, non-tampering terms about the Cubs' managerial opening.
From the Chicago Sun-Times
- Gordon Wittenmyer says the Cubs have interviewed a "mystery candidate" for manager. Who could it be?
- Gordo also says the Cubs might wind up trading Jeff Samardzija.
From the Detroit Free Press
- Anthony Fenech, writing about the Tigers' managerial search, says Detroit will interview at least two candidates on the Cubs' list: Rick Renteria and Brad Ausmus.
From the Boston Globe
- Torey Lovullo is not only on the Cubs' list, but also could be interviewed by the Tigers after the World Series. Nick Cafardo also writes about how pitching coaches are now being taken much more seriously as managerial candidates.
Today's food for thought
- Which U.S. state matches your personality? Take Time Magazine's online quiz. (I got Montana. Why? Who knows?)
