Just two days after he was fired as Cubs manager, Dale Sveum has a new job, via MLB Trade Rumors:
The Royals announced that they have hired recently fired Cubs manager Dale Sveum and added him to their 2014 coaching staff. Sveum will serve as a special infield instructor and have his position within the coaching staff determined at a later date.
The Royals' coaching staff currently consists of:
Pedro Grifol, Batting Coach Dave Eiland, Pitching Coach Rusty Kuntz, First Base Coach Eddie Rodriguez, Third Base Coach Chino Cadahia, Bench Coach Doug Henry, Bullpen Coach
I'm not sure which, if any, of those coaches might be on the hot seat, but Sveum has served as a hitting coach before, with the Brewers; he could also possibly be considered for a base-coaching job, or even bench coach.
I wish Sveum well; he does seem like a guy well-suited to various coaching roles, just not as a manager.
