Thanks a lot, Fredi Gonzalez, for leaving Craig Kimbrel on the bench, saving him for a save situation that never came. There goes our chance to four five-game series.
The Rays came back and won last night on the most unlikely of heroes, Jose Lobaton, hitting a walk-off home run off of Koji Uehara, forcing a game four today.
In Detroit, the Athletics are a game away from the ALCS thanks either to their superior pitching or a Detroit Tigers offense that was last seen on a milk carton. We all chalked up that Henderson Alvarez no-hitter to an apathetic Tigers team playing a meaningless game and trying not to get hurt before the playoffs, but right now, this Tigers team can't hit anything.
So without further ado, here are the pitching matchups. Let's get more games like we did yesterday.
Athletics/Tigers:
Red Sox/Rays:
Both of today's games are on TBS. Announcers: Brian Anderson, Joe Simpson, John Smoltz and Rachel Nichols for Red Sox/Rays; Don Orsillo, Dennis Eckersley, Buck Martinez and David Aldridge for Tigers/Athletics.
