Multiple reports have come across Twitter Wednesday evening that San Diego Padres bench coach Rick Renteria will be named Cubs manager Thursday; here's a representative sample:

Cubs will announce Rick Renteria as their next manager in next 24 hours. It's done

As I've said before, my first choice was Dave Martinez. The remaining candidates after Joe Girardi decided to remain with the Yankees all appeared pretty much the same to me. They all have roughly equivalent experience and qualifications; some (Manny Acta, A.J. Hinch) had managerial experience, some (Martinez, Renteria) didn't, but had significant experience as bench coaches.
I'll have more to say about Renteria when the official announcement is made sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, I wish him luck (he's gonna need it!) and will hold any judgments till I see what he actually does.
