Jorge Soler Video, And Saturday Cubs Notes

The Cuban-born Cubs prospect took some batting practice the other day at Fitch Park. And now you can see it.

You're excited about Jorge Soler. Right?

So is Cubs manager Dale Sveum:

"It's a pretty impressive batting practice for the first day out there," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said of Soler. "The ball comes off his bat like you want a ball to come off the bat if you're a manager."I'm really, really interested to see him on the field," Sveum said. "I've gotten to see him take [batting practice] and do things, but I haven't gotten to see the instincts on the field and all that stuff. I haven't gotten to see his arm either."

Soler is likely to start the season at High-A Daytona; if he does well there, perhaps a promotion to Double-A Tennessee will be in order. Despite all the excitement, remember that Soler doesn't turn 21 until next week; it'll be next year before we have any real chance to see him at Wrigley Field (at the earliest).

Here's some more info about upcoming events at Fitch Park:

If you’re coming to Fitch Park on Sunday to watch the first full squad workout, you can sleep in a little. Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts will address the team and the workout was not expected to start until 11 a.m. Arizona time.

Also, there will be intrasquad games Thursday and Friday before the Cactus League opener Saturday against the Angels at Tempe. Here's a bit more on that:

Thanks again to AZCubfan24 for the video; he told me he'll be back at Fitch Park later in the week and will send more of other players.
