Cubs Single-Game Tickets On Sale March 8

Here's all you need to know about the Cubs' single-game ticket sales for 2013.

Jonathan Daniel

The Cubs announced details for single-game ticket sales Wednesday. There's one significant change coming:

“Cubs fans will once again have a variety of options to secure their must-have tickets for the upcoming season,” said Colin Faulkner, vice president of sales and partnerships, Chicago Cubs. “We encourage fans looking for advance selection and no online service fees to attend our final two-hour on-sale event at Wrigley Field. Given our planned restoration schedule at Wrigley Field and fans’ increased use of online ticket purchasing, we don’t anticipate offering this advance in-person purchase opportunity moving forward.”

So... this would appear to mean that they're not going to have box office sales on the first day of ticket sales, beginning in 2014. At least that's how I read it.

The other details of single-game ticket sales are the same as the last several years:

  • There will be a premium presale starting at noon CT Wednesday, March 6. On that day you can buy tickets to any game for a 20 percent markup over face (15 percent markup if you use a Mastercard; Mastercard is sponsoring this sale). This sale will be online only.
  • The main on-sale will happen Friday, March 8. For box office sales, which start at 8 a.m. CT that day, you will need a wristband (though, in my view, there will be so few people asking for these that they might just call everyone). Wristbands will be available on a first-come, first-served basis Sunday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Monday, March 4, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Captain Morgan Club on the corner of Addison Street and Sheffield Avenue. The winning wristband number will be announced on WGN radio and posted at the Cubs website at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, which will give people plenty of time to plan whether they want to head to Wrigley Friday (as noted, I think wristband demand will be way down this year).
  • If you aren't in Chicago, or don't want to participate in the wristband sale, online and phone sales start Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m. CT at cubs.com and by calling 800-843-2827. (There doesn't appear to be a separate number for outside-of-Illinois sales this year.)
  • There's a limit of eight tickets per Marquee game (April 8, May 29, May 30, July 6, July 12, July 13, July 14, August 2 and August 16).

I think that covers everything. Good luck; on March 8 there will be the traditional "Tales From The Virtual Waiting Room" post for those trying for tickets online.
