Cubs vs. Dodgers at Tucson Preview, Thursday 3/21, 3:05 CT

Tucson doesn't host spring-training baseball any more... except for a charity game once each March. This year, the Cubs are involved.

USA TODAY Sports

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- The Dodgers have hosted a charity game at Kino Stadium in Tucson every year since the tragic shootings in that city, to benefit the Christina-Taylor Green Foundation. Green, who was just nine years old, was the daughter of Dodgers national crosschecker John Green, and this family has a Cubs connection -- John Green is the son of former Cubs GM Dallas Green. This year, the Cubs travel to Tucson to play the Dodgers to benefit this worthy cause. If you're in the Tucson area, it's worth going not just to see the Cubs, but to help out this foundation.

Darnell McDonald, now a Cubs non-roster invitee, was scouted by John Green for the Orioles, before Baltimore made him their No. 1 pick (26th overall) in the 1997 draft. Patrick Mooney at CSN Chicago writes about this relationship and how McDonald has never forgotten the Green family.

Cubs lineup:

Barney 2B, Castro SS, Rizzo 1B, Hairston LF, Sappelt CF, astillo C, Lillibridge 3B, Bogusevic RF, Feldman P

Dodgers lineup:

Schumaker LF, Ellis 2B, Kemp CF, Ethier RF, Ellis C, Uribe 3B, Castellanos DH, Songco 1B, Punto SS

This afternoon, Scott Feldman faces the Dodgers' Stephen Fife.

MLB.com Gameday

There will be a webcast of this afternoon's game on cubs.com and the MLB At Bat app, with Mick Gillispie and Jody Davis. Tonight's Cubs/Mariners game is on WGN radio with Pat and Keith.

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today, that will be 3 p.m. CT and 4:30 p.m. CT. These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. They will also appear in this StoryStream™. There will be more threads for tonight's Cubs/Mariners game at Peoria; because of the unusual timing of this split-squad day, tonight's game preview will post an hour before game time instead of the usual two hours (8 p.m. CDT) and also appear in this StoryStream™. The pitcher box and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
