In a little bit of housekeeping, Hisanori Takahashi cleared waivers and joined the Iowa Cubs. Casey Coleman was activated off the disabled list. To make room for the two pitchers, Jaye Chapman was put on the disabled list with a left hip strain and Jensen Lewis was released.
That play with Jean Segura was seriously messed up.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs silenced the Nashville Sounds (Brewers), 5-0.
Starting pitcher Barret Loux got his second win of the year with five innings of work, scattering three singles. He walked one and struck out six.
Four relievers, Casey Coleman, Zach Putnam, Rafael Dolis and Blake Parker each threw an inning of relief without allowing a hit and only one walk.
Iowa scored twice in the first inning on bases-loaded walks to first baseman Brad Nelson and shortstop Donnie Murphy. Both went 0 for 3.
Second baseman Logan Watkins was 2 for 5 and scored the first run of the game. Ian Stewart played the whole game at third base and was 0 for 2 with two walks. He scored one run.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies plated five runs in the first inning and cruised to an 8-1 win over the Huntsville Stars (Brewers).
Matt Loosen threw the first four innings without allowing a run. He allowed four hits. He walked two and struck out eight.
A.J. Morris was awarded the win because Loosen didn't go five. He allowed one run on three hits over three innings. He walked two and struck out two.
Left fielder Matthew Szczur led off the game with a triple. He went 2 for 5 and scored two runs.
Shortstop Arismendy Alcantara was 2 for 3 with a walk and a sac fly in the first inning that plated Szczur.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs were driven down by the Tampa Yankees, 8-3.
The Yankees jumped all over Daytona starter Zach Cates for six runs in the first inning, including a grand slam by Jose Toussen. Castes didn't make it out of the first inning, going two-thirds of an inning, giving up the six runs on three hits and three walks. He did get one strikeout.
The Cubs got on the board in the fifth inning on a double by catcher Chad Noble. Noble was 1 for 4 with a run scored. He did not get credit for an RBI as the run scored on an error on the play.
Right fielder Jorge Soler was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored one run. Second baseman Stephen Bruno was 0 for 3, ending his 12 game hit streak. He did reach base on a hit-by-pitch.
Kane County Cougars
You must be mistaken. There is no Kane County Cougars. There is no Midwest League. There is only water that falls from the heavens day after day after day.
