I took Sunday off from watching baseball and spent it out with my family. I really thought I could do it, but every time my wife went into the dressing room to try something on, out came the iPhone and the At Bat app.
- David Price is not inviting umpire Tom Hallion over for Thanksgiving this year. Price said Hallion said something to him on the field, Hallion called him a liar and it deteriorated from there. We probably haven't heard the last of this.
- Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reported that Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria personally ordered manager Mike Redmond to switch the order of pitchers in a double-header. Loria denies it. Since Loria is a man of unimpeachable character, I have to assume that Passan got the story wrong.
- More from Passan as he examines the state of television rights fees in baseball. It's a long and exhaustive article that's worth a read. Short story: the Phillies are up next for a big payday and then maybe the Cubs. And pity the poor Braves.
- Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports polled 48 baseball insiders and asked "You want Mike Trout or Bryce Harper?" The results might surprise you (they did Morosi) but everyone said they'd gladly take either.
- ESPN's Jerry Crasnick thinks that Andrew McCutchen needs a "wingman" for the Pirates to take the next step and examines the candidates. What? They're in first place right now.
- Getting back to Friday's story, Colin Wyers takes another look at Hawk Harrelson's anti-sabermetric rant.
- Jon Heyman at CBS Sports asks "Is Robinson Cano going to get paid like David Wright or Alex Rodriguez?" We know which one the Yankees prefer and we know which one Cano prefers.
- In a span of four pitches, Tony Campana stole second, third and home. Yes, it was a straight steal of home. He still can't hit a lick.
- Joe Posnanski says that Matt Harvey is having the best start to a career for a pitcher in 50 years. He looks back at other pitchers who started out in Harvey's class and finds that it's a mixed bag as to what kind of career those pitchers ended up having.
- Mariners' GM Jack Zduriencik is living on borrowed time. Many of his moves have backfired, but Tom Verducci looks at one of the biggest and thinks it's past time that the Mariners accept that Justin Smoak is a bust. Oh, and he seems to think Brandon Crawford is a budding star.
- The Indians are examining their options if Ubaldo Jimenez doesn't improve soon.
- John Lackey won his first game since 2011.
- The Athletics activated Yoenis Cespedes from the DL and designated Casper Wells for assignment, the third time he's been DFA'd this month. I think that Commissioner Selig is playing a phonograph and he's going to lift the needle at any time. When that happens, whomever has Casper Wells on their roster is out. That's my only explanation.
- Could the Tigers break the team single-season strikeout record for pitchers? That record is currently held by . . .do you remember? The 2003 Cubs.
- Carl Crawford has been more patient and is handling off-speed stuff better this year.
- Jonathan Sanchez was suspended for six games for hitting Allen Craig. That would be the first time Sanchez has hit his target in three seasons.
- Manny Machado met Brooks Robinson. Both were impressed with the other.
- Despite all the injuries, the replacement Yankees are six games over .500 so far.
- Carlos Ruiz is back from his 25 game suspension.
- The Blue Jays are frustrated.
- Nick Cardafo of the Boston Globe wonders if the Blue Jays may be looking to sell soon, as well as the Phillies, Mariners, White Sox
- Scientists in Japan have invented a baseball playing robot. I've seen that episode of the Twilight Zone before.
- Finally, Dave Cameron is right. This is the coolest baseball gif ever.
The Packers drafted former Iowa cornerback Micah Hyde. That will be controversial around here.
And tomorrow will be a better day than today, Buster.
