MLB Bullets Has Been Using An Illegal Substance

I would be more than happy if you Midwesterners would send some of that cold and rain out this way.

• Two members of the Toronto Blue Jays broadcasting team, Jack Morris and Dirk Hayhurst, have accused Clay Buchholtz of using an illegal substance on the ball. Red Sox manager (and former Blue Jays manager) John Farrell has vigorously denied Morris's accusations and Hayhurst's as well. Something tells me this isn't going to be the last we hear of this as the bad blood between Boston and Toronto just continues to flow.
• ESPN's Jerry Crasnick has a profile of the Orioles' Manny Machado, Dave Cameron over at FanGraphs says that Machado is a superstar in the making. He's not going to be as good as his cousin, Albert Almora, right?
• The Padres want to lock up Chase Headley to a long-term deal, but he won't negotiate until after the season. David Schoenfield thinks that the Padres should have signed him to a long-term deal yesterday.
• David Price, Jeremy Hellickson, Matt Moore and umpire Tom Hallion have all been fined by MLB and hopefully that's the end of that story. You could argue that Price and the players shouldn't have been fined, but his thousand dollar fine is like five to ten bucks for most of us.
• Jose Altuve is the shortest major league player since Freddie Patek, but good things come in small packages.
• Tim Kurkjian has an interesting story about what a major league baseball game sounds like to those on the field.
• The Pirates pretend they're the Not Ready For The National League Players. We'll see if they're still laughing at the end of the season. I actually hope they are.
• Speaking of perennial doormats walking tall, Royals fans have a reason to be excited so far this season. Of course, Rex Hudler don't need a reason.
• Michael Bauman, writing in Grantland, thinks the Blue Jays need to just wait.
• Alex Rodriguez has been cleared to resume baseball duties.
• Andy Pettitte can't even name any of the Astros hitters who knocked him around.
• Adam Jones is slumping badly. Not at the plate where he's hitting over .300 with power. But the Gold Glover's fielding has been quite poor so far this year.
• Tim Hudson won his 200th game. Is 200 the new 300?
• While Justin Upton thrives in Atlanta, his older brother B.J. Upton is struggling. No word on Kate.
• The Yankees got Chris Nelson from the Rockies.
• That's OK. The Rockies signed Roy Oswalt to a minor league deal.
• Terry Pluto says that the Indians trade of Shin-Soo Choo is already paying off big dividends for the team.
• This probably won't come as a surprise to any of you, but Yadier Molina is a really good baseball player and is the new face of the Cardinals.
• Mark Saxson of ESPNLA wonders why the Dodgers haven't extended the contract of manager Don Mattingly yet.

• Finally, Joe Posnanski wonders what baseball would be like MLB decided their champions like the English Premier League does: without a playoff. For one, the Cubs would have won the NL pennant in 1984, 1989 and 2008.
