Jorge Soler Homers, Daytona Cubs Win 14-5 Saturday

The D-Cubs crushed the Brevard County Manatees Saturday night... and we have video!

Thanks to Dave Kemp for providing the video, above, of Jorge Soler's two-run homer for the Daytona Cubs against the Brevard County Manatees (an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers). Daytona pounded out 20 hits and defeated the Manatees 14-5 Saturday night in Daytona.

Soler went 2-for-5 in the game, but the biggest offensive performance in the game was from Javier Baez, who went 5-for-6 with a single, three doubles, a home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Here's one of the doubles:

Through Sunday, Baez is hitting .281/.322/.519 with 15 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 36 RBI in 51 games (210 at-bats). The only concern about Baez is his BB/K ratio: nine walks, 56 strikeouts.

Soler is hitting .294/.365/.503 through Sunday with 11 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 30 RBI. He's walked 20 times and struck out 30 in 200 plate appearances.

Here's one more video from Saturday night's game, Dustin Geiger hitting a double (one of eight two-base hits for the D-Cubs that night):

Geiger is hitting .310/.377/.487 with 15 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 47 RBI in 197 at-bats; he's walked 21 times and struck out 33. Geiger was the Cubs' 24th-round pick in 2010 out of Merritt Island High School in Florida; he's been kind of under-the-radar, but has taken big strides forward this year. Primarily a first baseman (though he's played some third base), if he keeps this up, he could find himself in Double-A later this year.

Thanks again to Dave Kemp for the videos.
