White Sox Announce Makeup Date For Cubs Rainout

The date the White Sox chose for the makeup of this postponement is somewhat of a surprise.

Many of us who were at the Cubs/White Sox game at the Cell May 28 that was rained out, expected that the White Sox would announce a makeup date for June 24, a convenient common off day, right after the Cubs are finishing a series with the Astros at home and the White Sox return the following day to host the Mets.

That turned out to be wrong; Tuesday, the White Sox made this announcement via press release:

The May 28th game between Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs at U.S. Cellular Field, which was postponed due to rain, has been rescheduled for Monday, July 8 at 7:1O p.m. CT.

Game tickets and parking coupons from the postponed contest will only be honored at the July 8 makeup game.

That's a very odd choice from the White Sox' perspective; they will be finishing a three-game set in Tampa against the Rays, come home to play the game against the Cubs, then head to Detroit to play the Tigers. The Cubs are in the middle of a homestand, so other than losing an off day, there's no travel involved.

The White Sox say "tickets are still available." That, unlike the choice of date, isn't a surprise.
