Cubs Minor League Wrap: June 6

Don't ask. Just don't ask.

With the first round of the draft tonight, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the minors today after the afternoon double-header in Tennessee. I didn't miss much.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs got shut down by the Round Rock Express (Rangers), 6-0.

Guillermo Moscoso threw the first six innings and allowed three runs, all on a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Moscoso gave up three total hits. He walked five and struck out five.

Third baseman Junior Lake made both his season and his Triple-A debut tonight. He was 1 for 4. Second baseman Logan Watkins had a double in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He was also 1 for 4.

Steve Clevenger was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk in his rehab assignment.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies were swept by the Jackson Generals (Mariners), 5-0 and 2-1.

In game one, starter Alberto Cabrera took the loss after allowing five runs on ten hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out two.

Matt Szczur was 1 for 4 with a double. Chad Noble was 1 for 3 with a double.

In game two, Eric Jokisch turned in a good start but got tagged with the loss anyway. He threw a seven-inning complete game, allowing both runs in the third inning. One of the two runs was unearned, but since it was his own error, you know how I feel about that. Actually, you should know how I feel about the very concept of "unearned runs" by now. He gave up four hits. Jokisch walked two and struck out six.

The only run the Cubs scored in North America today came in the sixth inning when second baseman Ronald Torreyes doubled and scored on a single by catcher Rafael Lopez. Torreyes was 2 for 3 with a walk and Lopez was just 2 for 3.

Daytona Cubs

Tropical storm Andrea cancelled both game. It's June. It could be a long season in the Florida State League this year. I guess literally it would be a short season.

Kane County Cougars

The Kane County Cougars were swarmed by the Burlington Bees (Angels), 9-0.

Starting pitcher Jose Rosario went five innings and allowed five runs on five hits. All the runs Rosario gave up were in the fourth inning, and four of them were unearned, coming after a two-out error by shortstop Marco Hernandez. Rosario walked three and struck out two.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario was 2 for 4.
