Those of you hoping and/or predicting that Chang-Yong Lim would be promoted to the Cubs this September, you win!
#Cubs select contract of RHP Chang-Yong Lim. Bowden DFA
— Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) September 4, 2013
Now, this is not some hot young prospect. Lim is 37 and has pitched for many years in Korea and Japan. Here are his NPB numbers -- he pitched for Yakult in Japan from 2008-2012.
Here are his numbers in the Cubs organization this year -- almost unhittable at Triple-A Iowa. He's got a chance to make the 2014 bullpen (he was signed to a two-year deal before 2013), so it's useful, I suppose, to see him pitch a bit this season.
The photo above is of Lim pitching for Korea in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
The DFA represents either the second or third one for Michael Bowden this year, I've lost track. He could wind up clearing waivers and returning to the organization, maybe for a NRI to spring training in 2014.
Discuss, etc.
