It's been said by numerous people, myself included, that the Royals' great run through the end of the regular season and first couple of playoff rounds was reminiscent of what the 2007 Rockies did in a similar time frame.
Those Rockies went 13-1 in their last 14 regular-season games, beat the Padres in a tiebreaker (though the Padres are still waiting for Matt Holliday to touch the plate) and then swept the Phillies and Diamondbacks to make the World Series... where they got swept by a clearly superior team, the Red Sox. In fact, much as happened to the Royals Tuesday night, the Rockies got demolished in Game 1 by a score of 13-1.
This year's Royals went 7-2 in their last nine regular-season games, won the wild-card game from the Athletics and then swept the Angels and Orioles to make the World Series... where they have lost Game 1 to what appears to be a clearly superior Giants team.
However. Past performance doesn't predict future results, as you know. That's why they play the games. The Royals really don't want to go to San Francisco down two games to none, though.
