The 2014 major-league baseball season will end either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on whether the Royals can win Game 6 of the World Series, but that's not the end for baseball this year. The Arizona Fall League continues play through mid-November and this Saturday, November 1, is their annual "Fall Stars Game."
Cubs pitching prospect C.J. Edwards has been named to the East Division squad which will take on a West Division squad in the AFL's version of an All-Star Game.
Edwards is the only Cubs prospect so honored this year; he has appeared in three games, throwing a total of 7⅔ innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He's walked five and struck out six. Edwards posted a 2.35 ERA and 1.062 WHIP in 12 starts in 2014 split between the Arizona Rookie League Cubs and Double-A Tennessee. He turned 23 in September and I'd expect him to have a good shot at starting 2015 at Triple-A Iowa.
The Fall Stars Game will be played at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, the spring-training home of the Rockies and Diamondbacks, this Saturday, November 1 at 7 p.m. CT, and will be televised live on MLB Network and streamed at MLB.com. I'll have a game thread open for this TV game for everyone here.
