This has been a weird World Series.
The first couple of rounds of this year's playoffs had thrilling comebacks, walkoff wins, and extra-inning affairs.
The WS? Nada. Just one one-run game; the other five have been decided by (in order of occurrence) six, five, seven, five and ten runs. All the blowouts have pretty much evened-up the total run count: the Giants have scored 27 total runs, the Royals 25. KC has three home runs to SF's two, but the Giants are hitting for a higher BA (.282 to .255).
It's great to get to Game 7. Is it too much to ask to have this game be one like Game 7 in 1960, 1997 or 2001?
Yeah, probably. I'm just glad we got one more game. Here are some Game 7 facts:
- No team has won World Series Game 7 on the road since the 1979 Pirates.
- All told, there have been 36 Game 7's in World Series history. This one will break a tie -- home teams and road teams have each won 18 of those 36 games.
None of the history really means much; these teams are different from all the ones that have come before. What we do know is after this, it's baseball winter, with about four months to go before we see spring-training games. So enjoy this one for all you can.
