One National League division series could wrap up today. The other will move on to Game 4.

One thing I learned about today's Giants/Nationals game: If you live in the San Francisco or Washington markets and don't have a cable subscription to a tier that includes MLB Network, or subscribe via DirecTV, Optimum, Time Warner, Verizon FiOS, BrightHouse, Buckeye or Arvig (in which case you could watch the game online), you are out of luck for watching today's game.

Sure, you can go to a bar and watch, but that's not an option for some people.

This seems wrong. For all the warranted criticism of the NFL, they at least get this right: when a game is on cable, they sell rights to a broadcast channel in the home markets so that those who don't have or can't afford cable can watch the game.

I understand MLB selling much of the rights to the postseason to cable networks and producing some games for its own network -- which, incidentally, I believe is absolutely the best of all the league-owned channels. MLB Network is definitely a jewel in MLB's crown.

But MLB is missing the boat by not making this game available on an over-the-air broadcast channel in the markets of the teams playing. Big, big mistake on MLB's part. Could have made money on it, too.
