2014 N.L. Division Series, Game 4

Will the NLCS participants be decided today? Or are we headed for a pair of Game 5's?

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Nationals are in a win-or-go-home situation. But they were in one Monday, and thanks to some poor fielding by the Giants, they won Game 3 and now can send the series back to Washington for Game 5 with a win this evening. They appear to have the upper hand in the pitching matchup today, anyway, and then would have Stephen Strasburg available for a Game 5.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers spent a fair amount of time after the game bitching about umpire Dale Scott's strike zone (justifiably so, I'd say), and they also must win or watch the rest of the postseason on TV. They are going with their ace in this game, though he wasn't very good in Game 1.

Oddly, TV forced these teams to swap game times today, which means both a somewhat short turnaround for the Cardinals (afternoon game follows night game), and also will mean shadows will be an issue for both games, with a 4 p.m. local time start in St. Louis and a 6 p.m. local time start in San Francisco.

If there are one or more Game 5's for these division series, they would be played Thursday, after a travel day Wednesday, so no matter what happens today, there will be no baseball tomorrow. Here's hoping for at least one Game 5 so we have baseball on Thursday, and don't have to spend two days with no baseball waiting for the ALCS to begin Friday.

Here's all the info you need for today's games.

Nationals vs. Giants, Game 3. Giants lead series 2-1. TV: Fox Sports 1, game time 8 p.m. CT. Starting pitchers: Gio Gonzalez vs. Ryan Vogelsong. Announcers: Matt Vasgersian, John Smoltz and Jon Paul Morosi. ESPN Radio announcers; Dave O'Brien and John Kruk.

No lineups were available for the Nationals/Giants game at posting time.

I have seen several sources with conflicting information about announcers for these series. Those are the announcing teams that did the games Monday, so it would make logical sense to have them stick around for Tuesday's games, which are at the same sites. I had it backwards yesterday.

Again, the three-man booths just have people stepping all over each other and agreeing or repeating stuff that's already been said, making the broadcasts clunky at best, unlistenable at worst.

If you can't watch or listen, here are today's Gameday links: Gameday for Giants/Nationals Gameday for Cardinals/Dodgers

This will be the only thread for today's games. Enjoy, and discuss amongst yourselves.
