Introducing The 2014 SB Nation MLB Awards

New, 41 comments

MLB runs its own award nominations, which you'll hear about next week. This year, SB Nation is doing something a bit different.

David Banks

Over the last few years, SB Nation baseball sites have conducted voting for awards that mirrored the BBWAA awards and posted winners about this time of year.

This time, we're doing something a bit different, but still something to remember the 2014 baseball season by. And you're involved! (Or, at least I hope you will be.)

We're nominating events and other things that happened during 2014 by team in the following six categories:

  • Funniest moment
  • Most regrettable moment
  • Defensive play of the year
  • Most important hit of the year
  • Best pitching appearance of the year
  • Team of the year (we can't nominate the Cubs, not that you necessarily would this year)

Here's how it will work. In the comments to this post, present your nominations. Put the category you are nominating in the subject line and the event (or team) you are nominating in the body of the comment. Feel free to add relevant GIFs or other photos to back up your nomination.

Then, I'll go through the nominations and recommend those you want to send on to balloting. I'll pick the top 5 for each category by number of recs and through the next week or so, I'll have a post on which you can vote. The results will be reported on November 17, after which onward: a SB Nation MLB committee will select 4-5 nominees for each category based on team site results and hold a nationwide vote for each on sbnation.com/MLB.

Enjoy this -- should be fun. Have at it.
