One of the little things I'm looking forward to in 2015: Turning the pages of my Dilbert page-a-day calendar. I've had the calendar every year for about the past eight years, except for last year when I didn't buy it for reasons I don't quite know. I missed having that calendar on my desk at work, that's for sure.
As this is the final Cub Tracks of 2014, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe New Year. Enjoy your celebrations, and here's looking forward to what will hopefully be a great 2015.
From Cubs.com:
- Christian Villanueva broke a 3-for-40 slump in Winter Ball with three consecutive two-hit games for Yaquis de Obregon. He's still only hitting .229, but he has 10 homers in 48 games.
From the Chicago Tribune:
- I only include this because I was pretty shocked by the results. It's a poll asking whether the Cubs should move on from Starlin Castro, and as of the time I looked at it 53 percent of the respondents said "yes". So much for that .292 average and .777 OPS from last season.
From Cubs Den:
- John Arguello gives his take on Starlin Castro, making a comparison of his behavior to that of Mark Grace during his younger days.
- He also looks at a word that has been used around BCB on occasion: Grittiness.
- The Cubs might still be able to find that big bat they're looking for, but a top-of-the-order hitter might be a tougher fit.
- And along that line, should the Cubs just look within their own roster for that top-of-the-order bat?
- Apparently the Cubs have shown some interest in Stephen Drew... but why?
From Chicago Cubs Online:
- The Cubs are still getting linked to Max Scherzer. I don't have an answer as to why on that one.
- As for the pursuit of outfield help, the Cubs are not alone in the search.
From Cubbies Crib:
- More discussion about the search for outfield help, with David Miniel giving his nod to Sam Fuld.
- Source-gate, or maybe more like Rumor-gate: Is Welington Castillo being discussed in a trade to the Rangers?
From Chicago Cubs 101:
- Tim Duxbury looks at three projections of 2015 performance for Jon Lester.
Today's food for thought:
- Philosophers and scientists answer the question: What scientific idea is ready for retirement?
- Here's a look at 15 futuristic predictions that came true in 2014.
