SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- Via Bruce Levine, we have some rumors regarding two players expected to be in the Cubs' Opening Day lineup:
In need of outfield and infield help, the Detroit Tigers have their top scout watching the Cubs this week. Outfielder Nate Schierholtz and middle infielder Darwin Barney are both being evaluated by Tigers long-time executive Scott Reid. Detroit has lost shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder Andy Dirks to injury. Both players are projected to miss major portions on the season.
The article says the Cubs would be looking for pitching, which makes sense because the system is loaded with good position player prospects, and the Cubs could use some pitching depth. Actually, I wonder if the Cubs would even be in a position to ask for Rick Porcello or Drew Smyly in a deal with Detroit, although obviously they'd have to sweeten a Tigers deal with a prospect or two to get those guys. Or maybe both of them for one of the pitchers?
Well, who knows. Those guys would be a good fit in Detroit, given their injury issues at those positions.
I'm sure you have opinions in this matter, so have at it.
