Cubs vs. Giants 'B' Game at Mesa, Monday 3/3, 11 a.m. CT

Here's something you will only see in spring training.

Christian Petersen

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- This ought to be fun. A "B" spring-training game is one where no official statistics are kept, and the game does not count in the standings. These two teams were rained out Saturday afternoon in Mesa, so they are going to play this morning to get some more work in for both teams.

The Cubs' lineup for this game is essentially the one that was supposed to play in the rained-out night game at Talking Stick against the Diamondbacks, and I know it includes several players you're interested in seeing. The only people who will see this game are the ones who show up at Cubs Park in Mesa this morning -- that will include me. I'd expect only a few hundred at most, but who knows?

A non-game note: I received an email from SBN support about the issue that some of you have had about not being able to stay logged in. They are working on it today.

Cubs lineup:

Alcantara 2B, Almora CF, Olt 1B, Bryant 3B, Kottaras C, Soler DH, Vitters LF, Szczur CF, Valdez SS

There was no Giants lineup available early this morning. I'll try to tweet one when I get to Cubs Park.

Jason Hammel will start this game for the Cubs. Giants prospect Kyle Crick is expected to pitch in this game, though it's not clear from this article whether he will start.

I will be live-tweeting this game, as last week, not every pitch, but the result of every play. I think we can be assured that the Calvinball-type rules that were in effect for the intrasquad game won't be used for this one, which should be played more like a regular game. It should get under way shortly after 11 a.m. CT. This will be the only thread posted for the "B" game; the game preview for today's regularly-scheduled game against the Brewers in Maryvale will post here at 1 p.m. CT.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
