SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- Right now, all we have is this information:
Ted Lilly named special assistant to #Cubs GM
— Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) March 4, 2014
Three years after being traded away for what wound up being negligible return, Ted Lilly returns to the Cubs in a front-office capacity. (Wonder if he could repurchase his old house at 1305 W. Waveland?)
This is interesting on several levels. First, it was always clear that Ted was a thoughtful baseball mind, and he can certainly add a good player's perspective to the front office. I assume that Theo & Jed will likely use him as a special assignment scout, and also perhaps to work with the pitchers while he's here in Mesa:

Of course, there's one more thing Ted could help players work on:

Welcome back, Ted Lilly. Glad to see you in the Cubs organization again.
