Iowa Cubs
Finished up their homestand yesterday. Heading out to Colorado Springs.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to an easy 9-1 win over the Birmingham Barons (White Sox).
Starter Corey Black didn't allow a hit over six innings, but was pulled after throwing 91 pitches. He walked three and struck out eight. The Smokies lost the no-hitter when P.J. Francescon allowed a hit to the second batter he faced in the 7th.
Left fielder John Andreoli went 3 for 6 and scored once.
Second baseman Wes Darvill had two doubles in a 2 for 5 afternoon. One of those doubles came with the bases loaded in the first inning and plated all three runners. He later scored that inning.
First baseman Dustin Geiger went 2 for 5 with a two-run double in the first inning. He scored on the Darvill double.
Right fielder Rubi Silva went 1 for 4 with a walk and his second home run of the season. It was a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs were sunk by the Clearwater Threshers (Phillies), 6-3.
Starter Rob Zastryzny was cruising along in this game until with the bases empty and two out in the fifth, he allowed five straight hits before getting pulled for Michael Jensen, who got the final out. Zastryzny's final line was 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Second baseman Gioskar Amaya went 3 for 5 with a double. He scored two runs and had one run batted in. In his two games since coming off the DL, Amaya is 6 for 9.
Left fielder Bijan Rademacher extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 1 for 2 with a walk and a hit by pitch. He had one RBI.
Kane County Cougars
The Kane County Cougars took a bite out of the Beloit Snappers (Athletics), 10-4.
Tyler Skulina threw the first 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out two.
Justin Amlung got his third win with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief of Skulina. He gave up four hits and a walk. He struck out two.
Catcher Will Remillard was a perfect 4 for 4 with a double and a walk. He had three RBI and scored once.
Left fielder Shawon Dunston Jr. hit his first home run of the season with two men on in the seventh inning. Dunston also doubled in a 2 for 4 game. He scored twice and had the three RBI.
Third baseman Jordan Hankins went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. He scored once and also stole a base.
DH Daniel Canela was 2 for 5 and scored twice.
