The Smokies were rained out today. The game against Jackson will not be made up.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs boiled the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Rays), 6-2.
Starter Yao-Lin Wang was in trouble a lot today, but in the end he only gave up two runs, one earned, over 4.2 innings. Wang allowed three hits and issued three walks. He struck out four. He gave up both runs in the first inning and Charlotte never scored again.
Zack Godley got his first Florida State League win by pitching the final two innings and allowing only one hit. Godley struck out two, although one of those two batters reached first in the ninth inning on a Godley wild pitch on strike three.
The D-Cubs took the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Tim Saunders hit a grand slam. It was his second home run of the year. Saunders was 2 for 4.
The other two runs came in the sixth inning when center fielder Albert Almora tied the game with a two-run home run. It was also his second home run this season and Almora was also 2 for 4.
DH Dan Vogelbach was 2 for 3 with a walk.
Kane County Cougars
The Kane County Cougars lost to the Beloit Snappers (Athletics), 2-1.
Starter Juan Paniagua took the loss after he allowed two runs in the fourth inning. Paniagua pitched 3.2 innings and allowed four hits, including a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning. Paniagua walked four and struck out three.
The Cougars bullpen was perfect, retiring all 13 batters they faced after relieving Paniagua. Justin Amlung tossed 3.1 innings and struck out three. Tyler Bremer tossed a perfect bottom of the eight and did not strike anyone out.
The Cougars had four hits. Catcher Cael Brockmeyer was 2 for 4.
