Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 50

The Giants didn't give the Cubs much to work with Tuesday night, and the Cubs couldn't capitalize on the few chances they did get.

Jason O. Watson

Ah, the Cubs' nemesis once again rears its ugly head: The inability to hit with runners in scoring position.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Mike Olt. Yes, a one-out double was all it took to claim the top spot on the hero podium.
  • Hero - Justin Ruggiano. Welcome back from the disabled list! Got a single and didn't strand anybody? That gets you second place.
  • Sidekick - Blake Parker. Well, you pitched the seventh inning and Jose Veras pitched the eighth, so you win third place by a nose.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Big Goat - Jake Arrieta. Not a horrible outing, but four runs allowed will generally land you in the Goat division.
  • Goat - Emilio Bonifacio. 0-for-4 night including two inning-ending outs with runners on.
  • Kid - Luis Valbuena. Also 0-for-4, but by the time he ended the sixth with the grounder that left Anthony Rizzo on first, the score was already 4-0.
